Pinterest, the American image sharing and social platform, is jumping head first into the world of shoppable content. Idea pins, which allow users to save products, projects, and ideas, are the backbone of Pinterest’s platform and they have now become shoppable-through a partnership with multinational ecommerce company Shopify.
Shoppable pins will let brands and retailers sell directly from Pinterest and also allow for content creators to mark brand partnerships. This expansion into the world of ecommerce follows Pinterest’s “global rollout of a Pinterest channel on the Shopify ecommerce platform in April 2021.” With the rise of influencer marketing and brand partnerships, this endeavour creates endless opportunities for purchases.
Aya Kanai, Pinterest head of content and creator partnerships, details in a blog post the intended impact and reach of shoppable pins.
“Pinterest is the place where creators with inspiring and actionable ideas get discovered. With this latest update, we’re empowering Creators to reach millions of shoppers on the platform and monetize their work. Creators deserve to be rewarded for the inspiration they deliver to their followers, and the sales they drive for brands. Creators are central to our mission to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and we’ll continue working with them to build their businesses and find success on Pinterest.”
